Exhausted pup! Playful boxer-bulldog Wilbur relaxes on his handmade sun lounger

A clever canine was caught on video turning a patch of grass into a comfy bed to catch some Z’s under the sun. The footage shows Wilbur, a one-year-old pup, relaxing in his handmade lounging spot in his owner’s backyard in Lansing, Illinois. As his owner captured the moment on camera, Wilbur can be seen comfortably sprawled out on his back, with his head resting inside the hole he had skillfully dug out.

The boxer-bulldog mix, known for his silly antics, seems to be lounging in a deck chair just like a human would, complete with resting his arm to the side. Kirstin LaRoche, age 35, exclaims, “Check out this dog! I thought he was out cold!” before playfully tapping on the window to rouse him. Wilbur then awakens from his nap, sits up, and shoots her a puzzled look as if wondering why he was disturbed from his peaceful slumber.

Wilbur was spotted by his owner in their back garden in Lansing, Illinois, as the boxer-bulldog cross appeared to be reclining like a human

In Lansing, Illinois, Wilbur’s owner caught him lounging in their backyard, looking just like a human as he relaxed. When he realized he was being watched, Wilbur hilariously struggled to get up from his impromptu bed and head inside. After kicking his feet off the edge and squirming free, he made a beeline for the door. As he shook off the dirt he had been rolling in, he squeezed through the dog flap, much to his owner’s surprise. Kirstin admitted, “At first, I thought he was dead when I saw him leaning back like that in such a strange position. But I saw him breathing, so I quickly grabbed my camera to capture the moment before he woke up. He’s incredibly adorable and quite the goofball, so it’s hard to stay mad at him, especially when he pulls stunts like falling asleep in a hole.”

After his owner knocks on the window to wake him up, he begins a hilarious struggle to clamber back out of the makeshift bed and come inside

When his owner taps on the window to rouse him, the dog embarks on a comical journey to extricate himself from the makeshift bed and return indoors.

He eventually kicks his feet off of the back edge and wriggles free before bounding towards the back door

He finally managed to push his feet off the edge and squirm his way out before heading towards the rear door. “He’s dug holes before, but I’ve never seen him actually lay or sleep in one!” Kirstin recalled. “When I tapped on the window and woke him up, he just looked at me like, ‘What’s the problem? Nothing to see here.'”

Kirstin and Grant Gutierrez began fostering Wilbur in December of last year and officially adopted him on Valentine’s Day in 2019. The couple was approached by a dog rescue center to foster him after he was found as a stray at nine months old. Kirstin, a self-employed photographer, described Wilbur as the most depressed and frightened dog she had ever seen when she picked him up from the shelter.

However, once he settled into their home, Wilbur began to gain confidence and play with other dogs. This helped to bring out his true goofy and happy personality.

Wilbur, a stray pup just nine months old, was taken in by Kirstin and Grant Gutierrez for fostering in December. After stealing their hearts with his goofy charm, the couple officially adopted him on Valentine’s Day last year.

Kirstin, who has been fostering dogs for half a decade, gushes about Wilbur’s lovable personality: “He may not be the brightest pup, but that’s what makes him special to us.” The Gutierrezes credit One More Dog Rescue for bringing Wilbur into their lives, recognizing the organization’s incredible efforts in rescuing and rehoming dogs, especially in Chicago where overcrowded shelters lead to high euthanasia rates.

Recalling the day she picked up Wilbur, Kirstin remembers how the scared pup trembled in fear. He was nervous about everything – the outdoors, chirping birds, even the gentle wind. But with love and patience, Wilbur slowly learned to trust his new family and embrace his forever home.

Kristin and her husband Grant have four dogs including Wilbur. The others are Bruno, a beagle-pug cross, Piper the pitbull and a Yorkshire terrier called Molly

Kristin and her husband Grant are proud pet parents to four dogs, with Wilbur being one of them. In addition to Wilbur, their furry family members include Bruno, a lovable beagle-pug mix, Piper the pitbull, and Molly the Yorkshire terrier.

Witnessing Wilbur’s initial fear and trauma was truly heart-wrenching for Kristin and Grant. They couldn’t help but wonder about the challenges he faced during the first nine months of his life. However, the joy of watching him transform from a scared pup to a happy and confident dog was an indescribable experience that they knew they couldn’t part with.

Wilbur and their pitbull Piper shared a special bond, so when Valentine’s Day rolled around, the couple decided to surprise Piper with the ultimate gift – officially adopting Wilbur into their family.

Apart from Wilbur and Piper, their pack also includes Bruno, a charming beagle-pug mix, and Molly, the adorable Yorkshire terrier.
